Demi Lovato's new single "Skyscraper" is finally here. The empowering ballad about finding strength in the wake of a waning relationship dropped on Tuesday (July 12).
A piano plays as Demi sings, "Skies are crying, I am watching catching teardrops in my hands/ Only silence, as it's ending, like we never had a chance."
By the second verse, an empowered Lovato begins to find more strength. As a beat kicks in, she sings, "As the smoke clears/ I awaken and untangle you from me/ Would it make you feel better to watch me while I bleed?/ All my windows still are broken but I'm standing on my feet."
And on the chorus, she proclaims, "You can take everything I have/ You can break everything I am/ Like I'm made of glass, like I'm made of paper/ Go on and try and tear me down/ I will be rising from the ground like a skyscraper." The song closes out with Demi proudly belting out that chorus.
In a teaser for the video, directed by Mark Pellington and dropping this week, Demi is seen standing alone in the desert. She looks straight into the camera before the clip fades out.
"This song is so special to me because it's inspired by my journey and the struggles that I've dealt with this past year," she told Seventeen.com. "I hope people are able to relate to it and realize that they are able to rise above and overcome any obstacle, no matter the circumstances, and shine like a skyscraper. I am still on a personal journey dealing with my own issues each and every day, but the best advice I can give to anyone going through a rough patch is to never be afraid to ask for help."
The song was written by Toby Gad and will be her first big release since leaving treatment earlier this year. "Recording this song was such an amazing experience for me. It was such an incredible and emotional process, and I couldn't have asked for a better producer to work with than Toby Gad," she said. "Toby is one of the sweetest people I know and I am so proud of the work we did together. My biggest wish for this song is that it's able to inspire others and urge them to keep moving forward no matter what the odds."
